Meet Lady Boss Extraordinaire, Theresa Sell

“Dissatisfaction is a symptom of ambition; it is the coal that fuels the fire.” That quote perfectly describes me and how I’ve approached my business.

Early in my career as a financial planner for a Fortune 500 company, that dissatisfaction was ever-present. I was working more than 80 hours per week trying to grow my business. My time at home was minimal and when I was home, I was still working. My marriage was suffering and my son and I were losing the close bond that we had always had.

I called my mentor and told her I couldn’t do it anymore. That I couldn’t do the long hours and not have anything resembling the lifestyle I was trying to achieve when I became a financial planner. That I couldn’t keep working nonstop, and giving all of myself to this business.

I told her it wasn’t possible and she told me it was. And then she started to tell me how I could do it. That was a pivotal moment for in my life. There was a lot I was taught, and I lot that I had to figure out on my own. And I did it!

Back then, I would go to conferences and listen intensely to the speakers, and watch the most successful women sit together and collaborate and just enjoy their friendships. I wanted a seat at that big girl table. I wanted to have the knowledge and expertise to be able to collaborate and offer value. I wanted to be the one on stage sharing wisdom.

You need some kind of segue here. This doesn’t flow. You’re moving from “I DID IT!” into a whole new set of problems. This new set is about putting yourself out there, gaining experience, etc. The first set is about WL balance.

So I started my first business. And in the beginning, I was constantly asking the giants in the industry how I could be successful. I wanted to know exactly what I needed to do every day to be the best, grow, and help as many people as possible. I got a lot of cheerleading. They would say, keep doing what you are doing and you are doing great.  But it wasn’t enough for me, I wanted answers on how I could improve and grow, and do it as quickly as possible.

This passion and drive led to many great mentors and coaches along the way.  And ultimately, it’s what drove me to become a coach and start a coaching organization. But without those mentors and coaches, I wouldn’t have succeed in my businesses… Because no one is successful on their own!

I knew then – and I know now -- that in order to see the right path to take, I needed to stand on the shoulders of those who went before me. And once my success and experience grew to the point where it could provide significant value to others, I knew that I needed to provide those answers to other new women in business.

Initially, I started coaching people informally. Entrepreneurs from all over the country saw the success I had in my own businesses, and would ask if they could have an hour on the phone with me, shadow me for a day, or invite me to their practices to help them with their customers and businesses. That’s when it hit me: THIS is what I loved doing. THIS was my favorite part of the work. THIS is what I wanted to do all the time. I coached this way for seven years, working with more than 100 financial advisors to improve the profitability and efficiency of their practices. Then, I was asked by a Fortune 300 company to develop and coach advisors through their maternity coaching program.

It was a program that was perfectly aligned with my passion. It allowed me to meaningfully help female financial advisors who were planning to become pregnant, were pregnant, and who were ready to come back from maternity leave. So often, we’d see a pregnancy destroy a woman’s practice because her income would stop while she was on leave, and the bills would keep piling up. It was more than just the businesses that suffered – there was the strain on relationships, marriages, and mental health.

So I came aboard to walk alongside these women and help them thrive in their businesses. At this point, I was known for being the most profitable advisor (out of 3,000), an experienced coach, and for having grown my businesses even during a pregnancy that had disabled me and had caused complications after I had given birth. The company wanted me to teach what I had done to other women in the industry.  So over a period of six years, I was able to help dozens of women not only maintain their practices while pregnant and on maternity leave, but leverage the experience and grow their businesses.

At this point, I was hooked. Helping female entrepreneurs grow their businesses, build wealth, and grab hold of success was the only thing I wanted to do. Now, 13 years into coaching, there was no turning back.

But time was working against me. I simply didn’t have enough time to work 1:1 with every woman who  knocked on my door. The demand for my style of coaching that led female entrepreneurs to a life of working less and making more was hitting a fever pitch.

That’s why I created Lady Boss Coaches – to serve more women in an on-demand, affordable way that will give them the growth and success they’re craving.

Over the decades, I have worked with farmers, gift shops, salons, blade sharpeners, sign shops, barn curtain makers, embroiderers, retail sales, non-profits, and many more. And the primary barrier that keeps entrepreneurs from getting the coaching they need is EXPENSE.

My soul is on fire to help female entrepreneurs develop the business and lifestyles they deserve. Money should NEVER come between a woman and her dream.

I understand how scary it can be to spend money you don’t have in order to (hopefully) earn more.  So I decided the best way to bridge this gap would be to offer everything a female entrepreneur needs to know, in a way that does not require the cost and commitment of 1:1 coaching.

The Lady Boss Coaches membership was designed to deliver everything you need to work less, make more, and live the lifestyle you’ve always wanted. It offers a complete transformation for every woman that completes the program.

I’ve brought together more than a century of coaching experience from top female entrepreneurs into the membership, so it’s all right there for you.  You can listen while you drive, get ready in the morning, or even while walking your dog.

When I look back to where I was when I first started my business – scared, craving answers and trying my best to learn everything I could to grow as fast as I can – I remember how frustrating it was to not have all the answers at my fingertips.

Lady Boss Coaches is what I wish I had when I was starting out a coaching community and training goldmine to propel my business forward and support a balanced lifestyle.
